Chapter notes

“A Strange Wrestling Match” is a humorous yet meaningful story that highlights the values of courage, self-control, kindness, and the importance of using strength wisely. The chapter is set in the kingdom of Vijaygarh and revolves around a royal wrestler named Vijay Singh and his encounter with a seemingly harmless man called the “Strange Wrestler.” The story uses comedy and surprise to teach a moral lesson: true strength is not in violence or pride, but in humility and understanding. It also shows that kindness can bring unexpected rewards, while arrogance can lead to embarrassment.

The story begins by describing the king of Vijaygarh, who is proud of his court wrestler, Vijay Singh. Vijay Singh is famous throughout the kingdom for his physical power and wrestling skills. He has defeated all other wrestlers in the region, so people fear and admire him. The king too believes that no one can match Vijay Singh’s strength. Because of this reputation, Vijay Singh becomes overconfident. He starts believing he is unbeatable. His pride grows, and he begins to treat others as weaker and less important. The king enjoys watching Vijay Singh’s victories and feels proud of having such a champion in his court.

One day, a man announces that he wants to challenge Vijay Singh. This man is not dressed like a wrestler. He is thin, simple, and looks ordinary. The people in the court laugh at him. They cannot imagine how such a weak-looking person could fight Vijay Singh. Even Vijay Singh feels insulted. He sees the man as a foolish stranger who does not understand what danger he is bringing upon himself. The king, however, is curious and allows the match to take place for entertainment. The stage is prepared, and everyone gathers to watch what they assume will be a quick victory for Vijay Singh.

As the match begins, something very strange happens. The challenger does not fight back aggressively. Instead, he moves calmly, almost casually. Vijay Singh rushes to grab him, expecting to throw him down in seconds. But the stranger slips away each time. Vijay Singh tries again and again with full force, but the man escapes without effort. The crowd is shocked because they have never seen Vijay Singh struggle. The match becomes more puzzling when the stranger suddenly laughs and lightly taps Vijay Singh’s shoulder, as if teasing him. Vijay Singh becomes angry and embarrassed. His pride is hurt. He feels that this man is making fun of him in front of the king and the public. His anger makes him lose control, and he begins attacking more brutally, determined to crush the challenger.

However, the stranger still avoids direct wrestling. He does not hit, kick, or attempt to harm Vijay Singh. He only dodges. After some time, Vijay Singh becomes exhausted. His heavy body and full-force movements drain his energy. The stranger remains fresh. Then, when Vijay Singh makes one last strong attempt, he loses balance and falls flat on the ground. The stranger does not attack him; instead he stands quietly and smiles. The match ends with Vijay Singh defeated—but not by strength, rather by his own anger, pride, and lack of patience. The crowd and the king are stunned. Vijay Singh feels humiliated.

At this moment, the stranger finally reveals who he truly is. He explains that he is not a professional wrestler at all, but a simple person who practices yoga and self-control. He had heard that Vijay Singh was using his power to frighten people and was becoming arrogant. So he came to teach him a lesson. He says that physical power without self-control is dangerous. A person who cannot control pride and anger can be defeated easily, even by someone weaker. His calmness and balance allowed him to win without violence.

The king understands the message and praises the stranger’s wisdom. Vijay Singh also realizes his mistake. He feels sorry for his arrogance and promises to become more humble. The stranger does not punish him further. Instead, he forgives him and encourages him to use his strength for protection, not for pride. The story ends on a positive and moral note, showing that the goal of true strength is not to dominate others but to improve oneself.

Overall, “A Strange Wrestling Match” teaches that pride is a weakness and that self-control is greater than physical force. It reminds students that calm thinking and patience help one succeed, while anger and arrogance lead to defeat. The story is memorable because it delivers a deep lesson through an entertaining and unexpected event. It encourages children to respect others, stay humble, and understand that kindness and wisdom are the real marks of greatness.
